چکیده

Acetaminophen (N-acetyl-p-aminophenol, APAP) is the most popular drug recommended and consumed for relieving mild moderate pain fever. Although effective in therapeutic doses, APAP overdose induces hepatotoxicity, causing acute liver failure. In this study, hepatoprotective effects underlying mechanisms of Lavandula officinalis essential oil (LEO) were investigated APAP-induced hepatotoxicity. To evaluate effect, Balb /c mice pretreated with LEO at doses 200 400 mg/kg, once daily seven days. On seventh day, treated (250 mg/kg) to induce significantly decreased serum levels alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma-glutamyl transferase (?-GT) compared group. Besides, a decrease myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, nitric oxide (NO), pro-inflammatory cytokines observed samples mice. Moreover, pretreatment showed significant antioxidant activity by decreasing malondialdehyde (MDA), carbonylated proteins, reactive oxygen species (ROS), glutathione (GSH), addition increasing hepatic superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), oxidized (GSSG). Our results that improved functions altered inhibiting oxidative stress inflammatory induced other stress-mediated toxicities.

Croton zehntneri Essential Oil Prevents Acetaminophen- Induced Acute Hepatotoxicity in Mice

Hepatoprotective activity of Croton zehntneri Pax & Hoffman (Euphorbiaceae) leaf essential oil (EOCz) was evaluated against single dose of acetaminophen-induced (500 mg/kg, p.o.) acute hepatotoxicity in mice. EOCz significantly protected the hepatotoxicity as evident from the activities of serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT), serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) activities, t...

Fraxin Prevents Chemically Induced Hepatotoxicity by Reducing Oxidative Stress.

Fraxin isolated from Acer tegmentosum is reported to exert potent anti-oxidative stress action. However, pharmacological activities of fraxin remain to be elucidated. This study investigated the potential hepatoprotective effects of fraxin and the underlying signaling mechanism involved. Treatment with fraxin significantly lowered the serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine...

Oxidative Stress Alleviation by Sage Essential Oil in Co-amoxiclav induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats

Clinical studies have shown that several classes of antibiotics are evidenced in drug induced liver injury. The combination of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid is commonly cited in such cases. Accordingly, the present study investigated the potential hepatoprotective and in vivo antioxidant efficacy of sage essential oil in Co-amoxiclav induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Sage essential oil was hyd...

Silymarin prevents acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity in mice

Acetaminophen or paracetamol (APAP) overdose is a common cause of liver injury. Silymarin (SLM) is a hepatoprotective agent widely used for treating liver injury of different origin. In order to evaluate the possible beneficial effects of SLM, Balb/c mice were pretreated with SLM (100 mg/kg b.wt. per os) once daily for three days. Two hours after the last SLM dose, the mice were administered AP...

Silymarin Prevents Restraint Stress-Induced Acute Liver Injury by Ameliorating Oxidative Stress and Reducing Inflammatory Response.

Silymarin is a flavonoid extracted from the milk thistle Silybum marianum. It has been reported to prevent liver injuries induced by various chemicals or toxins. Our recent study suggested that silymarin induces hepatic synthesis of glutathione by increasing cysteine availability, which may consequently contribute to increased antioxidant capacity of the liver. In the present study, we investig...
